A man posted a Facebook video shooting an elderly stranger dead then boasted he had killed 13 people.

Steve Stephens, 37, is still on the run over the death of Robert Godwin Sr, who he was seen approaching in a shaky video.

The pensioner, 74, was holding a bag of shopping which he tried to shield his face with as Stephens blasted him.

Footage of the killing was on Facebook for about three hours before it was removed.

In a separate confession video posted on Facebook, Stephens claimed to have killed more than a dozen other people.

‘Dog, I just snapped,’ he said. ‘I just killed 13 people man. That’s what I did. I’m about to keep killing until they catch me. I said, until they catch me. I killed 13 people.

‘I’m working on 14 as we speak.’

‘Here I am massacring. Today is the Easter Sunday massacre.’

Police urged people in five states to be aware as a huge manhunt is underway to find him.

The victim’s son, Robert Godwin Jr., told Cleveland.com that he can’t bring himself to watch the video.

‘I haven’t watched the video. I haven’t even looked at my cellphone or the news,’ Godwin said. ‘I don’t really want to see it.’

He said his father, a retired foundry worker, collected aluminum cans and often walked with a plastic shopping bag, picking cans up if he saw them on ground.

The son said he believed his father was looking for cans on Sunday when Stephens approached him.

In the video, Stephens says the name of a woman, Joy Lane, and asks Godwin to repeat it, saying ‘She’s the reason this is about to happen to you.’

Godwin repeats the name back in confusion, which he doesn’t seem to recognise.

Then Stephens points the gun at him as the man raises his arms to try and protect himself.

Police have not verified any other shootings or deaths the killer claimed, Police Chief Calvin Williams said.

‘There are no more victims that we know are tied to him,’ he said.

Stephens Facebook page also was eventually removed.

‘This is a horrific crime and we do not allow this kind of content on Facebook,’ said a company spokesperson.

‘We work hard to keep a safe environment on Facebook, and are in touch with law enforcement in emergencies when there are direct threats to physical safety.’
