A new £5 note has sold for an astonishing £50,000 on eBay.

The special note was put on sale for a hefty price tag last month by a Plymouth resident. It has the serial number AK47 489327 – and cost the buyer an extra £2.50 to have it posted to them.

The successful – and only – bidder was successful late last night when the lot timed out, WestBriton reported. The identity of the mystery buyer is unclear – but they have previously bid on several other items on eBay – mostly clothing – and all in the last few days.

Seller ‘8356alan’ has previously sold clothes and toys on the online auction website and has been described by others users who have left feedback about him as “a pleasure to do business with”.
ebayThousands of sellers have auctioned off new five pound notes on eBay.

Since finding a market for new polymer fivers with low serial codes online, people have been putting their £5 notes up for sale in the hope of making some extra cash.

Collectors are paying big money for new notes which bear the codes AA01 – with one seller flogging his three £5 notes for more than £460 on eBay.

But it appears not only the first notes are desirable, since thousands more have been put on selling sites starting at a price of a penny up to the high thousands.

The previous note to sell on eBay in the region area went for £6.40 with a 96p postage charge, while the last AA01 note scooped £125.
