Boyfriend Chooses Interesting First Words For Deaf Girlfriend To Hear

If you’d waited your whole life to hear for the first time then you may think nothing could top that moment.

However for Andrea Diaz the day took an even more emotional turn when her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman, proposed to her just after doctors switched on her implant.

The grand gesture was witnessed by audiologist Dr Vicki Gonzales, Ms Diaz and Ms Diaz’s mother at the Mississippi Medical Centre, The Independent reports.

And in a heart-warming moment, Mr Peakman reveals that he chose to get down on one knee in the consulting room because he wanted the first thing the love of his life to hear was him asking her to marry him.

In the short video which was filmed at the centre, we see the moment Ms Diaz bursts into tears when Dr Gonzales switches on the implant for the first time.

She begins to explain through tears and laughter that it’s ‘noisy’ and ‘sounds funny’ at which point her mother tells her she loves her. Then after more tears Mr Peakman asks her a very important question.

He says: I love you so much and you’re my best friend, baby… I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me.

Andrea Diaz is initially overcome at what she hears but quickly accepts a marriage proposal saying: ‘Yes.. I like the ring. I can hear your voice!’

The University of Mississippi Medical Centre (UMMC) which put in the implant, posted the video to Facebook with the following caption:

After receiving a cochlear implant, patients of UMMC ENT and Communicative Sciences audiologist Dr. Vicki Gonzalez are sometimes overcome with emotions when the device is turned on and the patient can gain or regain hearing.
Andrea Diaz is one such example. She recently received an implant and became very emotional when the new device was activated, under the watchful eye of her mother and Kevin Peakman, her boyfriend. However, the day’s life-changing moments didn’t end there.
