Actor jumped to his death after being ‘haunted by spirit of relative’

An actor who appeared in Red Dwarf and 28 Days Later jumped in front of a train and killed himself, an inquest has heard.

44-year-old Stuart Luis took his own life after being “haunted” by the spirit of a dead relative.

Troubled Luis, who was also a talented mime and appeared in the cover of TIME magazine, claimed to be tortured by spirits who were “******** for his soul” since he found a family member who hanged himself at a family party five years ago.

Stuart Luis had even gone to a spiritual healer to be ‘cleansed’ of evil spirits, just a few days before he was found dead on railway tracks.

Luis’ body was found near East Croydon train station and CCTV stills showed him buying a ticket on Christmas Eve.

At the inquest – held at Croydon Coroner’s Court – it was revealed that Stuart tried to save the male relative hanged at a party in Poland by trying to resuscitate him.

Following the traumatic event Luis told his wife Monika that he had voices in his head and woke her up to say “spirits were ******** for his soul”.

Monika said: “Since I met him, he’s been very spiritual and he always trying to find the answer to life.

“But I think the situation at the party had a massive influence on his mental health.”

Stuart’s mother Jill Luis said she “did not really know his state of mind and how bad it was”.

However she did say he recalled a dream to her a year ago, saying it was “awful”.

Assistant coroner Jacqueline Devonish, ruled that the death was suicide, saying: “He was troubled by spirits and very wrapped up in understanding the meaning of life.
